'Cuse me, I'm back

The thrill and chill of the 27th Best of Newspaper Design competition in Syracuse, N.Y., is over.

I'm back home, as are 70-plus fellow facilitators and judges from across the world.

If you missed the coverage, the three-day report – featuring video, photos, stories and a journal – is here.
The announcement of the World's Best Designed Newspapers is here.

Obviously, I can't tell you who won individual awards.
Fact is, I can't remember too many specifics. The news judges and long-form judges were tough, as evidenced by the fact that there were no gold medals this year.

I'll try and pick out some sports highlights as I weed through my pictures.

One entry that caught my eye was this soccer preview section from a newspaper in Sweden.
It was round!

Below is a video (apologies for the quality, this isn't CNN) of one row of the sports portfolio entries in the large circulation categories.

Courtney

Lesson: Chris Courtney of RedEye falls asleep in the hotel lobby. Donuts, crackers, shoes and even lipstick grace his profile.
Ah, the love.

By the way, Chris is fine karaoke singer.

Very humbling.

Poor Courtney. I guess that's what he gets for stacking butter on Rukan when he passed out ...

It was jelly, Keeli... it was JELLY! Anyway, it was all in good fun, but I know whom to pass the favor along to in Orlando.
